Susan received her degree from Purdue University in Environmental Design in 1985. This past June marked her 30th anniversary of being involved in the kitchen and bath industry. She has worked for a custom cabinet manufacturer, 2 Kitchen & Bath firms in Indianapolis, and 1 in Lafayette before starting her own company Design Alternatives in 1994, after receiving her CKD certification that same year. Susan says she has seen fads come and go in that 30 years but none that she feels will have the far reaching impact of Aging in Place. She received her CAPS (Certified Aging in Place) designation in November of 2008.
Susan says some of her career highlights were the opportunity to work with Grabill cabinet company to create a home full of reconstituted veneer cabinetry for the Purdue Solar Decathlon house that was transported to Washington D.C. in 2012 for the Solar Decathlon competition. She has also taught the Interior Design Business Course at Purdue University.
As many of you know Susan lost both her home and her office buildings to a tornado in November of 2013. But never fear, when an opportunity knocks—take it!
