  • The AKBD exams are held from 8:00 am – 11:00 am
  • The CKD and CBD Exam (design portion) is held from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm
  • Candidates taking both parts of the CKD or CBD exam will take the AKBD in the morning, followed by the CKD or CBD design exam in the afternoon.

AKBD Exam:
The AKBD academic exam is the qualifying exam for AKBD certification, and serves as the academic exam for both the CKD and CBD certification exams. It is a three-hour multiple choice exam based on NKBA’sProfessional Resource Library.

CKD or CBD exam:
The CKD and CBD exams consist of two parts: the AKBD academic exam and either the CKD or CBD design exam. The design exam is a 6 hour practical exam that requires the candidate to produce 4 project documents in accordance with client needs, NKBA design guidelines, and the NKBA drawing and presentation standards. The four mandatory project documents for the CKD and CBD are:

  • Floor Plan
  • Mechanical/Construction Plan (Allowed to combine both in one drawing.)
  • Elevation Plan
  • Specification Form
