NKBA National sponsors paid courses for those wanting to further their education, as well as for those wanting exhaustive preparation prior to sitting for certification exams. Find out more about courses.
- The AKBD exams are held from 8:00 am - 11:00 am
- The CKD and CBD Exam (design portion) is held from 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
- Candidates taking both parts of the CKD or CBD exam will take the AKBD in the morning, followed by the CKD or CBD design exam in the afternoon.
AKBD Exam:
The AKBD academic exam is the qualifying exam for AKBD certification, and serves as the academic exam for both the CKD and CBD certification exams. It is a three-hour multiple choice exam based on NKBA's Professional Resource Library.
CKD or CBD exam:
The CKD and CBD exams consist of two parts: the AKBD academic exam and either the CKD or CBD design exam. The design exam is a 6 hour practical exam that requires the candidate to produce 4 project documents in accordance with client needs, NKBA design guidelines, and the NKBA drawing and presentation standards. The four mandatory project documents for the CKD and CBD are:
- Floor Plan
- Mechanical/Construction Plan (Allowed to combine both in one drawing.)
- Elevation Plan
- Specification Form
